another ultrasound

We had another ultrasound last Wednesday. We are getting pretty used to seeing our cute baby. The pics aren't as clear as the ones we always got from the fertility clinic, but they'll do.

This pic highlights the blood pumping in and out of our baby's cute little beating heart.

This is a front shot of our baby. No, those aren't alien eyes. It's the smart little brain that is forming in our smart little baby.

My favorite pic. What a cute side profile!

It was fun to see our adorable little baby again, but our ob/gyn appointment after the ultrasound was quite disappointing. We saw the doctor for less than 5 minutes, which I'm guessing is pretty normal for a 14-week visit. All he did was listen to the baby's heartbeat. He said, "I think we'll be able to hear the heartbeat today." I said, "Yeah, we just heard it in the ultrasound, and we heard it here with you last month." I didn't mention the time we also heard it at the fertility clinic. The doctor seemed surprised that we had had an ultrasound that day, yet he was the one who ordered it last month. He barely glanced at the printout the ultrasound tech gave me to give to him. Yeah, it's really not a nice feeling to not be remembered. I'm not sure I can get used to not feeling as cared about as I felt at the fertility clinic. Needless to say, I jumped at the chance to see a different ob/gyn next month. Here's hoping the new ob/gyn seems to care a little more. I guess he better--he was my childhood bishop. Weird, I know. But I'm guessing it will be a non-intrusive visit. Here's hoping...

I'm just happy that I have a cute little baby growing inside of me!

Bye-bye 1st Tri

So yesterday was the last day of my 1st trimester, and today is officially the 1st day of my 2nd trimester. Yay! I'm so glad to be past the riskiest trimester. And right on schedule, some of my 1st tri symptoms are decreasing. Yesterday and today I have had more energy than usual. Nice. I had been super tired since about week 6. I never realized how tiring it is to be pregnant. It's a lot of work to make a baby. Um, you know what I mean. I seriously have never been so tired/sleepy in my life, and I've been quite sleep deprived many times throughout my life. I'm not complaining though. This is by far the best reason ever to be tired. And in case you are wondering, I haven't really been sick. I do have to eat more often or I feel a little sick, but I have rarely felt nauseated. I must admit that part of me secretly wished that I would get full-blown morning sickness--just so that it would all feel more real. But I definitely appreciate getting any break that I can along this journey toward motherhood.
We have another ultrasound this Wednesday. I'm sure I won't be able to resist posting about that.

The saga of the kitchen storage cabinet...

Remember when I said that Diana and Sam helped us pick up a huge storage cabinet for our kitchen on Memorial Day? Well it was stinkin' heavy and a huge pain to get up to our 3rd floor condo. Right after Sam and Di left, I realized that it was the wrong cabinet. Yikes! Scott and I were exhausted (and I didn't even help carry the darn thing), and we had no desire to deal with it for a few days. Okay, maybe I had the desire to have Scott deal with it. I did get pretty sick of the huge box sitting in the middle of our living room floor.
Anyway, a few days later Scott enlisted his dad and sister Karen to help him exchange the cabinet while I was working. And the next day, Di and Sam spent their Friday evening helping us put it together:

Di was the directions master, Sam was the cabinet expert, Scott was a grunt worker, and I, um, handed stuff to everyone.

I definitely appreciated Sam's exactness in measuring things as we went.

The finished project. Aren't we so Vanna-esque? And don't worry--we did play a game and watch a fabulous movie after all our hard work.

It took Scott and me another week to go get the wall anchors we needed for it and also to dare ask Sam and Di to come help us again, but it was all definitely worth the wait.

Now instead of keeping our food storage here...

...and here (under the bed in our guest room)...

...it all (almost) fits into one, super convenient cabinet...

...and we LOVE it! We still need to make/buy 3 more shelves to fit in all of our canned goods, but that is a project for another day/month.

Thanks tons Di and Sam for all your help!!!

Chuck E Cheese

This last Saturday my niece Faith had a family birthday party at Chuck E Cheese to celebrate her 10th birthday the following day. My sister Melissa and her fam were able to be there, along with all the local fam. Way good times.

Faith getting ready to blow out her candles. I love this girl, and I'm so glad she was born 10 years ago!

Clay and his cousin Caden from his dad's side. They are way too cool to sit normally on the seats of this ride. :)

Me and Cole playing a little air hockey. Cole kept telling us how "freaky" Chuck E's friends on stage were, but he actually went near them and said he wasn't afraid. It was a far cry from 3 years ago when Scott first met Cole. He was crying and begging his twin brother Clay not to go near them. What a sweetie!

Cole, Rylan, & Kyler rockin' the truck ride.

Faith was in heaven with her two girl cousins her same age--Mikayla and Jesse (from her dad's side).

Katelyn was a maniac with absolutely no fear!

It was a fun, exhausting afternoon!

B is for baseball, bonfire, & Bees

Last weekend was fun:

Saturday afternoon we went to one of Matt's (Scott's nephew) last baseball games of the season. The weather was great.

Matt's a good little pitcher, and he knows it. :)

Can you tell how amazingly dirty Matt's uniform is? He says it's good luck. Um, Matt. I hate to break it to you, but I'm pretty sure it didn't work.

Saturday evening we had a bonfire and wienie roast up the canyon with good friends from our old singles ward.

Scott actually almost smiled for this picture.

Wow! What amazing marshmallow-roasting form Melissa has.

On Monday night, we went to a Bees game with my friend Candace and some of her kids. It was a little rainy, but we stayed dry and had fun.

Me and Candace--the girl that caused me to pee my pants laughing numerous times in high school. Oh, the memories. :)

Candace and 3 of her 5 children (plus a friend). Yes, I am a little behind in the baby-making.

I LOVE SUMMER!!!

busy weekend

Last weekend was pretty busy for us. My sister Melissa and her fam were up from St. George, so we spent Friday night hanging out with them and the rest of the fam at my parents' house. I didn't get any pics of them, and I also didn't get any pics of the family bridal shower we had for my sister Jana on Saturday. Saturday afternoon, Scott and I finally planted our balcony garden. I'm purposely not going to post any pictures of that because I plan to convince Scott to blog about it. Sunday was busy with family stuff. And Memorial Day was super long but fun. I attended my first ever door buster at RCWilley in order to get a great deal on some couches. I was super surprised that Scott got right up to go with me at 6:45am. Good times. I'll let the pics do the rest of the talking (at least most of it):

Monday afternoon, we had a picnic with my family. Faith was pretty daring on her scooter.

Jana, my mom, Scott, and Faith cleaning up the picnic.

I brought my softball gear. Clay is a great little hitter.

Cole had fun until he got hit in the face with a ball. But he did keep playing.

Christina in great softball pitching form.

Suh-wing, battah!

Later Monday afternoon, we went to Diana and Sam's to "help" them with their remodeling. Turns out we were all pretty wimpy at tearing down drywall.

Let me tell ya--I did some *real* damage to that wall.

Diana and I went swimming, and then we had a BBQ with the Carter clan on Di and Sam's patio.

John the hairdresser put the amazing Bump-It in my hair. Looks like Sam wanted to eat it.

I hate this side profile shot of me, but it's the best way to see the amazingness of the Bump-It.

Monday night, we gave our old couches to a lady in our ward. The love seat wasn't looking too bad.

But the couch was hideous--broken and sagging almost to the floor. I tried to convince the lady that she didn't want it, but she obviously wasn't very picky. We were just grateful that she took them off our hands.

Monday night Sam and Diana helped us pick up our couches from RCWilley. We were going for cheap and sturdy, but they also look way better than our old couches.

I'm even getting used to the weird built-in side pillows. They actually come in pretty handy. And Diana has agreed to help me make new covers for some throw pillows. We'll see how that goes...

We ended the weekend by having Diana and Sam help us pick up a huge storage cabinet for our kitchen. But that's a story for another post...

Yay for fun, busy weekends!
